João Guilherme Ripper will be visiting artist at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, thanks to the a grant of the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies.
The activities include lectures and the first rehearsals of “Candinho”, with libretto by the composer based on the childhood of the grant Brazilian painter Candido Portinari.
Ripper will work along with costume designer and dramaturg Osga Maslova and with pianist and music director Julie Gunn in preparing “Candinho” that will be premiered in April, Chicago.
